Medical College - Stara Zagora
General information
Medical College of Stara Zagora was established in 1947. During the period of its existence it has changed its status from a Secondary Medical School, later to a College Insitute of Medicine and by Decree № 16 of 27.01.1997 of the Council of Ministers it was transformed to a Medical College in the structure of Trakia University.
The College has a modern material and technical base, where optimum conditions are provided for a quality education of students in two recognized and accredited majors– “Rehabilitator” and “Medical laboratory assistant”. The College has a sufficient number of classrooms and auditoriums equipped with multimedia stationary in order to carry out the theoretical training of those majors. There is a large hall - aula fixed with multimedia and professional sound system for conducting theoretical classes, celebrations, promotions. There is a computer lab to conduct courses in Informatics at the College.
The library is under renovation and it satisfyes the needs of students with the necessary textbooks and literature. Near the College there is a student canteen.The students are provided with Student Hostels.
Practical training is conducted in specially equipped classrooms and learning laboratlories. For the major "Rehabilitator" a modern equipment is provided which is necessary for the realization of educational workshops on basic subjects - "Kinesitherapy", “Physical Therapy” and “Therapeutic Massage”. For the subject "Medical laboratory" there are two teaching laboratories made - clinical and microbiological for conduct of the training on basic subjects “Clinical Laboratory”and “Microbiology”. Student practical training in both subjects is conducted in clinical facilities / public and private health structures / located within the city and region with which the College has contracted.
Training of students is carried out by teachers in the budget of Medical College and Medical Faculty of Trakia University . The academic staff consists of proven professionals who continuously develop their qualification.
Management bodies of Medical College:
MC General Assembly consists of all teachers of a basic agreement at the College, representatives of the administrative staff and students.
The College Council consists of nine members elected by aGeneral Assembly secret election. Chairman of the General Assembly is a senior lecturer Ruska Paskaleva – rehabilitator.

Rehabilitator - accredited major by Decision of the Council of Ministers of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditationfrom 13/03/2005 and a procedure for program accreditation.
“Rehabilitatior” is a medical specialist graduated from Medical College and received a diploma of higher education degree "Professional bachelor" with professional qualification "Rehabilitator". The total number of hours in curriculum and the required credits are consistent with the Ordinance of Unified State Requirements /EDI/ for acquiring higher education in a professional field of "Health Care" for the title "Professional Bachelor of ....", adopted by the Council of Ministers’ Decree № 238 of 26.09.2008.
After graduation the rehabilitator works in a team with a doctor- clinicians, physician, physiotherapist and other medical professionals and carries out a certain volume of activities set out in its title characteristic. They canfind a realization in the hospital and the hospital help /offices in physiotherapy, massage and physiotherapy, in specialized clinics and departments, diagnostic and health centers, convalescent hospitals resorts, SPA centers, childcare homes and schools, sport centers and others/.
Due to the development of private healthcare sector in our country and the creation of new structures, the demand for rehabilitation is increasingly growing.There is a major interest in foreign students, mainly from the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Macedonia.
During the 2009/2010 school year there are 143 students trained at the College, including 33 foreign students.

The medical laboratory assistant is a medical specialist, graduated from Medical College and received a diploma degree "Professional bachelor" with qualifications "Medical laboratory assistant". The total number of hours in curriculum and the required credits are consistent with the Ordinance of Unified State Requirements /EDI/ for acquiring higher education in a professional field of "Health Care" for the title "Professional Bachelor of ....", adopted by the Council of Ministers’ Decree № 238 / 26.09.2008.

Due to the development of the private health care sector in our country and the creation of new private structures, respectively laboratories, the demand for medical laboratory assistants increases. During 2009/2010 school year there are 69 students trained at the College, mostly Bulgarian citizens.
The duration of training in themajorsat the College is three years and it is full-time. The curriculum complies with European requirements and Unified State Requirements/EDI/, cited above. The degree is a "Professional Bachelor” and professional qualification, respectively" Rehabilitator "and" Medical laboratory assistant ".
Nowadays,there is continuously growing needs of medical professionals nationally and globally, and this creates conditions for their successful implementation at home and abroad. Admission for the academic year 2010/2011 is made on the basis of an examination - a test in Biology, and recognition of matriculation in Biology.
