Research of the cultural and historical heritage of the historical and geographical region of Thrace – a prerequisite for the national identity of socio-economic development

The goal of the project is to research the potential of the cultural and historical heritage of the historical and geographical region of Thrace as a factor for the stability of the national and regional identity in the conditions of the European integration, with the purpose of intensifying the regional and European collaboration and creating conditions for active socio-economic development.
 
Tasks:
  • To research the humanitarian aspects of the cultural and historical heritage;
  • To research the place of the regional culture and the cultural and historical heritage in the collective memory of the ethnic, religious and national communities in the region;
  • To establish the changes in the «traditional» conflict zones;
  • To study the traditions and innovations in the lifestyle of the population;
  • To study the role of the English language as a means o intercultural exchange between the English-speaking settlers and the local population of the region;
  • To research the customs and rites of the region.
 
Work Program
 
FIRST STAGE:
 
  • Research of existing documents and publications
  • Organization of a seminar on issues of the cultural and historical heritage
  • Field research of the historical and geographical region of Thrace
 
SECOND STAGE:
 
  • Continuation of the field research
  • Analysis of the results
  • Preparation and realization of publications concerning the cultural and historical heritage and the national identity
 
Expected resilts:
 
  • Compiling a map with the contact information about the studied regions according to the registered peculiarities
  • Preparation and publishing of reports, information materials and papers
  • Developing local “brands”
  • Initiating activities aiming at preservation of the material and spiritual culture of Trakia
  • Creating a stable basis for national identity and Balkan collaboration
  • Developing a European cultural identity
  • Developing of a road map for integration of the studied cultural and historical factors in the socio-economic development of the regions which are subject of the research
  • Popularizing of the cultural and historical heritage of Trakia among the regional, national, Balkan and European community
  • Enriching the foundations of cultural tourism in the region
  • Including the cultural and historical heritage of the studied region in the Strategic plans for development of the region
