Information about foreign citizens who apply to become students at Trakia University
І. Conditions for application , necessary documents, final list of admitted candidates
Foreign citizens who hold a diploma of secondary education enabling them to pursue studies at the relevant higher schools in the country in which the secondary education has been acquired may apply to become students at Trakia University – Stara Zagora .
Required documents:
- Application form with short biographical notes and name of the major of studies selected by the candidate.
- Copy of the diploma of secondary education – when applying for a complete course of studies.
- Academic reference – when applying for a partial course of studies.
- Medical certificate issued within one month prior to the application date and endorsed by the relevant authorities in the country which the person applies from.
- Four photographs
Documents No. 2, 3 and 4 have to be translated, legalized and endorsed by the Consular Office at the Bulgarian Embassy in the country where there had been issued. When there is no such institution, the documents shall be legalized pursuant to the general regulations of legalizations, translations and endorsements of documents.
Documents shall be submitted in one of the following ways:
- personally at the Academic department office, Trakia University – Stara Zagora
- by registered mail to the following address: Academic department, Trakia University – Stara Zagora, Student Campus, Stara Zagora - 6000, Bulgaria
- through the Ministry of Education and Science for citizen from countries with restricted regime
The course for which student candidates for part-time studies will be enrolled is determined by the managing body of Trakia University – Stara Zagora on the basis of the information contained in the submitted academic reference.
ІІ. Training of admitted students
Prior to starting the special studies foreigners admitted as students shall have a ten-month training course in Bulgarian language. During the second semester they are trained and sit for exams in some subjects /biology, chemistry, physics/, which enables them quickly to adapt to the conditions of training at Trakia University – Stara Zagora . Those who complete successful that preparatory course get certificates.
Student candidates who have a good command of Bulgarian sit for a test in the language. Those who pass it successfully are enrolled in their first year of studies with no entrance exam in a major of their choice.
ІІІ . Educational fees, enrollment of newly admitted students .
Fees are determined annually by a Decree of the Council of Ministers. For the academic year 2005/2006 the annual fees for full-time studies are:
- for the preparatory course of studies – 2 000 €
The fee is paid after the notification letter by Trakia University that the person has been admitted as student
- the full fee for full-time studies for each year and majors is the following:
- medicine – 3300 €
- veterinary medicine – 2500 €
- medical colleges – 2600 €
- all other majors – 2000 €
The fee is paid in two installments at the beginning of each semestre.
The fee for part-time studies is 50% of the fee for full-time studies.
The fee can be paid in two ways:
- outside Bulgaria – by bank transfer at the bank account of Trakia University – Stara Zagora :

Each student who wants to live in a hostel can do so. The monthly rent is within 20 - 30 €.
The monthly support cost for one student is about 150 €.

Filing of documents: from 01 May 2005
Academic year 2006/2006 starts on ___September 2005
The necessary entry visa for the Republic of Bulgaria can be obtained by our Embassies in the respective country. You have to submit a certificate from the Ministry of Education and Science that you hacve been admitted, a receipt for paid-in fee for the first semestre and your passport /valid till October in the year of admittance/.
