Bulgaria Discovered Guide

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN)- Bulgaria

"ERASMUS+" Programme for Higher education aims to modernise and improve the higher education across Europe and the rest of the world. This is an European Union program through which students, teachers and university staff can acquire academic and personal experience in other European and non European countries, broadening their cultural horizons, improving their foreign-language skills and achieving fresh perspectives in their subject areas.

It gives students and staff opportunities to develop their skills and boost their employment prospects. Good practices will be shared between universities and businesses in Knowledge Alliances.

Higher education institutions from participating countries can work with those from neighbourhood countries, non-EU Balkan countries, Asia, Africa and Latin America to develop their educational systems. European higher education institutions and individuals can work with partner institutions outside the EU through international mobility, joint degrees, and international cooperation partnerships, including capacity building and staff development in emerging and developing parts of the world.

In 2000/2001 academic year Trakia University successfully started the cooperation in the Erasmus programme. Within the framework of the first institutional contract student exchange and implementation of an European system of credit transfer are under way. These activities conform fully to the stated European policy of Trakia University and its Programme of strategic development. The participation in the Erasmus programme makes it possible for the University to enrich its international experience. Students are able to acquire experience when they encounter another type of culture in European universities.

In 2007 Trakia University applied for and received the Extended Erasmus University Charter by the European Commission. It gives the University access to the programme for the period 2007 – 2013 academic years.

In 2013 Trakia University successfully has been awarded the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education under the "Erasmus+" Programme for the period 2014-2021 academic years.

Trakia University is open of new partnerships. Foreign students and teachers who wish to spend a period of their study and training in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria within the frameworks of exchange activities, will witness a dynamic development of new spheres, will encounter ancient culture, beautiful nature, warm-hearted and hospitable people.
